Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask Review: Is It Worth It, and Which Flavour?

Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask Review: Is It Worth It, and Which Flavour?

Last updated 23 October 2026

The Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask is probably the most famous Korean lip product in the world, and it is also the product our readers click on most. So here is the honest version: what is actually in the little jar, what it can and can't do for dry lips, which flavour makes sense, and whether a cheaper Korean balm would do the same job.

Top picks from this guide

The short verdict

It is a very good overnight lip balm, not a miracle treatment. The formula is mostly rich emollients and waxes with shea and murumuru butter, which is exactly what dry, flaky lips need at night.

You wake up with softer, smoother lips, and that is why people keep rebuying it. It won't permanently change your lips, and it has no SPF, so it is a night product.

Worth it if you like a cushiony, pleasant texture and don't mind paying for the brand. If you only want results, cheaper balms come close.

What is actually in it

The first ingredients are emollients and film formers such as diisostearyl malate and hydrogenated polyisobutene, plus microcrystalline and candelilla wax. They form a soft, glossy layer that stops water escaping from the lips overnight.

Shea butter and murumuru seed butter add richness. Laneige also lists a berry mix with vitamin C and antioxidants, but these sit far down the list, so think of them as a bonus rather than the reason it works.

Every flavour contains fragrance. If your lips react to scented products, look at the alternatives below.

Which flavour to choose

The formula is almost identical across flavours. What changes is the scent, the taste and sometimes a hint of tint.

Berry is the original and the safest first buy. Vanilla is the softest scent and the one most of our readers pick. Apple Lime and Mint Choco feel fresher, which some people like for a mask they wear all night.

If you are unsure, go for Berry or Vanilla. Nobody regrets those two.

Our readers' favourite: Lip Sleeping Mask (Vanilla)

Vanilla has the softest, least sugary scent of the range, which is why it is the flavour our readers click on most.

Amazon.de doesn't currently sell the Vanilla version, so the button below goes to Stylevana, a Korean beauty shop that ships to Europe.

The original pick: Lip Sleeping Mask (Berry)

The classic version and still the best known. Sweet berry scent, a faint pink sheen and the same rich texture as the others.

Usually around 20 to 24 EUR for a 20 g jar, which lasts most people several months of nightly use.

Fresher option: Lip Sleeping Mask (Apple Lime)

Same base, with a lighter, fruitier scent that feels less sweet. A good pick if you find the berry smell too sugary.

For dessert lovers: Lip Sleeping Mask (Mint Choco)

A cool mint and chocolate scent. Purely a matter of taste, the care is the same.

How to use it so it actually works

Use it as the very last step at night, on clean, dry lips. A thin, even layer is enough. More product just ends up on your pillow.

If your lips are flaky, wipe them gently with a damp cloth in the morning. The softened skin comes off easily, no scrub needed.

During the day, switch to a balm with SPF or a lighter balm. The sleeping mask is too glossy and soft to sit nicely under lipstick.

Who should skip it

People with fragrance sensitivity or very reactive lips. The scent is part of the experience, but it can irritate.

Anyone who wants a repair treatment for cracked, painful lips. For that, a ceramide balm or a plain ointment is the better first step.

Cheaper Korean alternatives

Etude Ginger Sugar Overnight Lip Mask costs about half as much and feels similar: rich, sweet and glossy. It also contains fragrance.

COSRX Balancium Ceramide Lip Butter Balm adds ceramides, panthenol and centella, a smart choice for dry, irritated lips.

Torriden SOLID IN Ceramide Lip Essence is lighter and less sticky, with ceramides and panthenol, good for daytime too.

For daytime: LANEIGE Lip Glowy Balm

If you love the sleeping mask but want something for the day, the Lip Glowy Balm is the lighter, sheerer sister product. Less occlusive, a bit of shine, easy to reapply.
